Firewire

Is a standred IEEE1394 a high-performance interface which allows for the connection of peripherals such as modem, printer, camera or any other mass storage device.
with use of this cable we can transfer information between digital device
below shown the picture of Firewire port

it is not genrally found in every computer like USB if we need to use this we have to put a card in our computer call firewire card which has firewire port
picture of fire wire card
its history is FireWire, originally created by Apple and later standardized as IEEE-1394, actually preceded USB and had similar goals. The difference is that IEEE-1394 was originally intended for devices working with lots more data things like camcorders, DVD players and digital audio equipment.
below picture of firewire
IEEE-1394 is a serial bus that uses twisted-pair wiring to move data around.
IEEE-1394 currently handles up to 400 megabits per second.
firewire is also based on plug and play as soon as user plug in and it prompt that new device is connected.

Difference between the usb and Firewire
Firewire is mostly use in capturing a video or an audio.
Firewire is quite more expensive then USB.
Main difference is Speed firewire speed is faster than usb
USB is a Hostbase means that we have to connect a device to a computer in order to communicate, while Firewire is peer-to-peer means that two firewire ported camera can easily communicate with each other without going through computer.

One of the biggest disadvantage of firewire is that it is not easily available as USB.
List of equipment came with firewire port

  • Handy cam
  • camera
  • web cam
  • video player
  • play station
  • audio player
  • And many more...

so this are list of device came with firewire port
my personal advice to all who use Handycam they have to use firewire card its personal experiance i m using this card i put this card in my desktop who use handycam just try it.....
now a days there is new technology is use call HDMI which is taken a place of that.

USB(Universal Serial Bus)

USB it means Universal Serial Bus  a connection technology for attaching peripheral devices to a computer, providing fast data exchange.
In todays world all computers, laptops came with USB port we all are quite much familiar with use of that we use pen-drives, mobile, i-pods  we can connect this device with USB cable to the computer
here is picture shown below how it's look

(USB PORT in computer)
below picture is shown usb cable which is use to connect device to computer

First released in 1996, the original USB 1.0 standard offered data rates of 1.5 Mbps. The USB 1.1 standard followed with two data rates: 12 Mbps for devices such as disk drives that need high-speed throughput and 1.5 Mbps for devices such as joysticks that need much less bandwidth.
In 2002 a newer specification USB 2.0, also called Hi-Speed USB 2.0, was introduced. It increased the data transfer rate for PC to USB device to  480 Mbps, which is 40 times faster than the USB 1.1 specification. With the increased bandwidth, high throughput peripherals such as digital cameras, CD burners and video equipment could now be connected with USB. It also allowed for multiple high-speed devices to run simultaneously.

What is USB cable?

  •  A USB cable has two wires for power (+5 volts and ground) and a twisted pair of wires to carry the data.
  •  On the power wires, the computer can supply up to 500 milliamps of power at 5 volts.
  •  Low-power devices (such as mice) can draw their power directly from the bus. High-power devices (such as printers) have their own power supplies and draw minimal power from the bus. Hubs can have their own power supplies to provide power to devices connected to the hub.

The devices connected to a USB port rely on the USB cable to carry power and data.

Inside a USB cable: There are two wires for power -- +5 volts
(red) and ground (brown) -- and a twisted pair (yellow and
blue) of wires to carry the data. The cable is also shielded.

How can we find that usb device is connected to computer?
there is a simple feature of USB that it is plug and play as soon as user connect usb device there is symbol like

(at the task bar)

A sample list of USB devices that you can buy today includes:
  • printer
  • scanners
  • Mice
  • Joysticks
  • Digital cameras
  • Web cams
  • Scientific data acquisition devices
  • Modems
  • Speakers
  • Telephones
  • Video phones
  • Storage Devices
  • in the next post we talk about other connection method....
  • Thank you..
